Thailand-based gemstone dealer Navneet Gems & Minerals Co Ltd is displaying its wide range of topaz coated with “Paraiba blue-like” colour in Hall 6 of the AsiaWorld-Expo.
“In today’s market, Paraiba tourmalines have become unaffordable; so our range of ‘Paraiba topaz’ makes it the perfect alternative for mass production. Topaz has a better hardness than tourmaline,” said company marketing manager Navneet Agarwal, noting that topaz has a Mohs hardness of 8 while tourmaline has a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale.
The colour-coated topaz underwent a US-patented CVD process, Agarwal said.
“This product line has been selling well, and we were able to get some new interesting orders for this stone during the first and second days of the show,” he continued.
The company is also selling other colour-coated stones including Pink, Rhodolite, Ruby, Spessartite and Green topazes, said Agarwal.
In addition to its topaz products, Navneet Gems & Minerals supplies calibrated pink tourmalines, blue sapphires from Kanchanaburi, calibrated spinels and blue zircons. “However, topaz will always be close to our heart, especially Swiss blue topaz,” Agarwal said.
